A telecom technician provides hands-on assistance and troubleshoots all phone equipment failures and service issues for all campus users. A telecom technician places and evaluates phone and data orders, coordinates and oversees all phone work orders and operates call detail recording equipment and programs for all telephone extensions, departments and budget codes ensuring that phone bills are accurate. A telecom technician responds to typical customer request for emergency, routine and remedial maintenance of telecommunications equipment and circuits, effecting repair/replacement of hardware/software as appropriate. A telecom technician coordinates testing and maintenance of communications circuits and cables as needed. A telecom technician installs various types of low-voltage communications cable and wire, testing to ensure installation meets minimum transmission line standards and characteristics. A telecom technician ensures that departmental procedures are followed to track inventory throughout the district to provide warranty cross-reference; researches and accounts for any missing items. A telecom technician provides assistance to district users regarding delivery of equipment. A telecom technician keeps abreast of new technology and performs other duties as required.

A telecom technician requires a graduate degree or equivalent in electronics or related field. A telecom technician should have 3+ years’ related experience in installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment. A telecom technician should have substantial electronic testing skills including a variety of equipments. Good communica¬tion, oral, and written skills as well as fine organizational skills are required.
