United Technologies to Cut 11,600 Jobs

United Technologies will cut 5% of its work force this year.The 11,600 job cuts are just the beginning; the firm will end up having cut 18,000 jobs in total during 2008 and 2009, or 8% of the work force.
United Technologies Corporation is an American multinational conglomerate based in Hartford, Connecticut. It researches, develops, and manufactures high-technology products in numerous areas, including aircraft engines, helicopters, heating and cooling, fuel cells, elevators and escalators, fire and security, building systems, and industrial products, among others.
UTC is also a large military contractor, producing missile systems and military helicopters, most notably the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter.
