The Dallas Housing Authority cut several jobs Friday after going over budget for administrative costs in recent years.

The housing agency, which provides subsidized housing for 60,000 residents, was about $2.5 million over budget for administrative expenses in 2008.

Officials did not say how many positions were cut.

The agency’s board of commissioners approved a $200 million budget for 2009. That included $7.9 million for administrative expenses, including human resources and executive salaries.

The agency had to cut positions, combine jobs and not fill vacancies to stop spending over budget.

Audits found that the DHA had mismanaged federal funding, and provided rent subsidies to people who were deceased and who had been disqualified from the program.
