According to data obtained by GolocalProv news, if the planned layoffs of almost 80 police officers and 60 firefighters takes place then on the basis of police staff and firefighters, Providence will slide down in the list with one of the smallest police and firefighter forces which will in turn increase the crime rates in the city. The recent data shows that although Providence has highest number of firefighters and police staff, its police to population ratio is not very high which will become very low if layoffs are enforced.
