What You Will Do
Telecommunications Professional 1, Drafting Specialist
Provides the design, acquisition, and maintenance support for day-to-day documentation and drafting services of the company's communications system. This includes telephone and data network infrastructure; and inside and outside cable plants; and/or collaboration media and technologies. Evaluates institutional needs and consults with customer to determine appropriate technologies and implementations. The person working in this position produces and details routine drawings/layouts of telecom components, facilities and/or systems. Generates and/or modifies computer-aided design (CAD) drawings of moderate complexity based on information from others. Uses industry codes, standards, and customer specifications to prepare work plans, drawings and layouts. Works with the telecom team to ensure drawing quality. Develops CAD drawings and design models under the direction of a senior designer. Produces work in accordance with budget and schedule constraints. Understands fabrication, construction, operation, and maintenance requirements relevant to telecommunications service.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Two years working experience in AutoCAD Release 2012 or higher
Able to maintain a working knowledge of internal and client CAD standards
Able to generate layout drawings from sketches and specifications.
Proficient knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques, CAD modeling and design
Experience performing tasks such as digitizing, copying and scanning of drawings, prints and maps.
Skill in working closely with customers and suppliers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.
Demonstrated experience with the use of SharePoint 2010
Demonstrated experience with the use of Microsoft Visio 2010
Demonstrated experience with the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Experience working with telecommunication or utility drawings and symbols
AutoCAD Infrastructure Map Server (formerly MapGuide)
Adobe Photoshop Elements
Experience working with telecom designers to creating drawing sets for projects
Experience working with and maintaining accurate as-built records
Education: Typically requires two yearsâ€™ experience and an associateâ€™s degree in drafting/design; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Network, Infrastructure, and Engineering-Telecommunications Service (NIE-TS) group is the organization at the Laboratory that handles the design, construction, and installation of telecom services. Design and drafting activities will be in support of these telecom tasks and services.
