As part of the “1st Line of Defense”, you will help lead the security architecture and engineering activities including planning, design, development, implementation, and testing for all security controls deployed in the 12th District.

You will oversee the deployment and troubleshooting of Network and Telecommunication equipment physically deployed within the 12th District. You will also coordinate and review security architecture and engineering results from IT teams, other Federal Reserve Districts, and external service providers for technologies located outside the 12th District.

You will partner with 12th District IT teams to conduct threat modeling, identify critical security controls, review existing security controls, and oversee testing and security assurance activities. You will own the security tools, architectural frameworks, automation and orchestration platforms used by the 12th District.

You will help supervise, mentor, and coach a growing team of security architects, security engineers, network engineers and telecom engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

Interact with stakeholders across the District and Federal Reserve System to effectively shape and drive secure network strategy and capabilities including participation in strategic initiatives and workgroups

Work with business and IT teams to identify secure network solutions and risk mitigation options to reduce risk and exposure

Work as a lead member of the Infrastructure Planning and Network Support (IPNS) team, handle trouble tickets related activities including analysis, troubleshoot, and problem resolution to correct the most difficult WAN/LAN connectivity problems and network performance issues by working with National Information Technology (NIT) groups 

Direct second level support to NIT groups to implement upgrades, installation, and troubleshoot any national related issues

Lead the design and development of network operational reports and scorecards

Translate and communicate complex network information to facilitate staff and business understanding of risks

Support the development and maintenance of network policies, standards, controls, guidelines and operating procedures

Be responsible for the planning, development and delivery of initiatives that instill Bank-wide ownership and responsibility for network security and identify methods to improve internal coordination and communications to rapidly respond to network incidents

Develop and maintain standards and documentation for infrastructure production hardware, procedures, and system configuration

Maintain awareness of emerging technology and industry trends, especially as they may be applied to further Bank objectives

Consult business areas on related network risk assessments and identify any vulnerabilities

Manage, update and monitor physical site security best practice checklist

Provide review on network security related to cloud services

Provide mentoring, guidance and training for staff to develop knowledge of network technology, information security best practices as it relates to the infrastructure architecture


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, data/telecommunications, electrical engineering or related disciple, or equivalent work experience

Seven years of experience in network security, design and implementation

Knowledge of network architecture, VLANs, firewalls, routers, switches, bridges, hubs, load-balancers, wireless access points, web-application firewalls, and software-defined networks

Strong familiarity with network protocols, MAC address spoofing, DNS poisoning, DoS attacks, IP spoofing, SYN attacks, and Network Access Control (NAC)

Experience working with packet sniffing, ping sweeps, and port scans application/protocols

Working knowledge of application security, secure SDLC, Appsec testing

Working knowledge of data security concepts, principles and application

Hands-on working experience with technical architecture, infrastructure designs, servers, workstations, virtual machines, cloud-based environments and hardening procedures

Highly proficient, concise and articulate verbal and written communication skills to a wide range of audiences including business executive, end-users, and technical partners

Effective customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a team environment; motivate and work with others to accomplish tasks; and deal honestly and directly with others

Experience in administering and troubleshooting various hardware and configuration software, Cisco IOS routers/switches, wireless access points (APs), network interface adaptors, operating systems including Windows, UNIX , Mac and mobile devices in an enterprise environment

Experience in the hardening of routers and switches; ACLs, TTY access, port security on switch ports, spanning tree, CDP, VLAN pruning

Experience working with packet sniffing, ping sweeps, and port scans application/protocols

Experience in troubleshooting network related problems

Working knowledge of data security concepts, principles and application

Working knowledge of the design and testing of structured cabling systems

Ability to independently manage overall team workload with little or no oversight

Strong critical thinking, analytic and problem-solving skills

Participate in on-call rotation, support during off-shift hours and occasional travel to branch locations
