How to be a Successful Telecom Project Manager

Telecom project managers require a special sort of person for the position to be effective. Telecom employment has taken a forefront in businesses because of the cost savings that can be achieved with the right person leading the team. The telecom project manager will be responsible for putting carrier services in place, integrating equipment into the process, migrating networks, and achieving continuity in the business. The project manager will be the central contact point for the customers, the vendors, and the people in the IT jobs.

In order to be effective in such a position, you must be very organized, be attentive to details and have the ability to communicate and document the necessary processes to all parts of the implementation process. You will need to hold all of the pieces of the project together and ensure that the project is completed successfully.

You must have a very clear understanding of how the project works and what the desired outcome is. You must be able to foresee the best way to achieve the desired outcome. You may need to spend some time studying the specifics of the industry that you will be looking for telecom employment in so you can be effective. You can acquire a coach that will train you and certify all of your abilities for you. You can take part in group forums that are available in your community and mingle with others in the industry to get some ideas.



Project Managers are responsible for all aspects of a business project. They will start the project off with a conference call, or kick off call, that will cover all of the specific instructions and expectations as well as a summary of what the goals of the project are. The meeting notes should be compiled for each meeting so you can track the progress and a copy of the notes should be distributed to each part of the team to ensure they are all focused in the same direction.

The project manager will also use tracking documents to determine if the project is moving at a pace that is right for achieving the time line goals that have been set forth. The specific progression of each part of the project should be well documented as well. While documentation is very important, communication is also an essential part of the process.

Any updates and all timeline updates must be communicated to all participants including those in the IT jobs. It will be vital to keep the IT staff up to date as many of the changes that are necessary will need their assistance. Telecom employment requires the cooperation between all parts of the project and the only way to do this is to keep the lines of communication open.

Telecom Project Managers jobs are not completed once the project is complete. They should spend some time following up to ensure that all parts of the completed project are working properly. This will require the cooperation of those in the IT jobs as well as all other telecom employment positions. Once all of the follow up is complete and everything has been verified, there are certainly going to be updates necessary so the project is almost never completely finished.
