The telecom industry includes a wide range of services like telephone, television, internet, radio, etc. It basically deals with the services like transmitting massages via cable, optical fiber, or satellite, etc. It requires multiple skill sets and diverse degrees of qualification based on the nature of contribution to the industry.

Careers in telecom industry can be mainly classified in three tiers, which are Technical, Functional and Management. A technical category is assigned to develop, maintain, expand and enhance the mechanism of systems by working as a JTO, JTE, and Engineer. Functional responsibilities are those, which by means of technical tools provide services to the end user. Here the person plays the role of designing, planning and executing the data transmission from station to receiver. It involves all physical and intellectual exercise like content designer, producer, editor, and director. Management looks after the business prospect of the systems. It covers sales, promotion, and marketing to generate revenues and maintain account payroll, human recourse and legal advisory.

For every three verticals you have to fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria based on the nature of the job. Technical profiles require an engineering degree in telecommunication, computer science or electronics, which can be defined as the minimum requirement of the employer. Similarly a graduation or a diploma in journalism or art subjects can be the minimum requirement of the functional profiles and graduation or post graduation in media, marketing, finance, strategic management is required for the management jobs. Advancement of qualification and experience in a related filed can be an additional eligibility criterion which depends upon the nature of responsibilities employers wants to assign.



Persons seeking careers in the telecom industry require good written and verbal communication, thorough subjective and practical knowledge of respective domain. They should also be well versed in basic computer skills to generate, maintain and modify the piece of information required to develop or transmit to the next department or the end user.

To start a career in telecom industry, prior experience is not mandatory, but surely provides an added advantage. For higher level or profile and responsibilities it is required to have a year or two of relevant experience. The HR pool is also growing with increase in global education rate. This will further intensify the completion leading the employers' to select more skilled and specialized candidates.

The telecom industry is a demographic independent industry, where an able individual can contribute his expertise world wide and achieve satisfied and prosperous social status. Promotions and rewards will remain high in the future, because of the completion among the employers, as they cannot afford to lose good performers. A person interested in this field can pursue successful career in both the terms money and status. This industry has no upper or lower limits of earning prospects and a deserving candidate can be rewarded for the best of his capabilities.

Even now when the world wide economy is slow, this industry is successfully maintaining an up curve in the growth chart and will continue to soar high in years to come. There are still large pools of markets yet to be tapped in the telecom industry which may open up more prospects.
